For that quarter, the facility received an overall CMS rating of five, surpassing Virginia’s state nursing home average of 3.0. The CMS evaluates nursing homes based on major criteria including health inspection results, staffing data, and care quality for residents.

CMS data show Arleigh Burke Pavilion had an average daily census of 41.1 residents with a total of 49 available beds throughout the first quarter of 2026. The nursing home does not operate as a hospital-based facility.

Arleigh Burke Pavilion reported no fines or penalties during the initial quarter of 2026, maintaining a record free of incidents.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that the older adult population in the United States is increasing as the population of younger age groups decreases. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s population age 65 and older soared from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million as of 2024.

A study released in 2021 indicates that nearly 50% of adults in this age group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports, and over one-third may ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
