Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a man on several charges related to indecent liberties with a minor. The arrest follows an incident reported on April 20, when officers responded to the 14000 block of Braddock Road in Centreville after complainants found their 14-year-old child with an adult man in a vehicle. The suspect fled before police arrived.

According to investigators, Akbar Yunusi, 50, of Chantilly, met the victim through a social media platform and traveled multiple times to meet the minor for illicit acts. Detectives later learned that Yunusi purchased a one-way flight to Istanbul, Turkey about one day after being confronted by the complainants. On August 3, Customs and Border Protection assisted in arresting Yunusi upon his return to the United States.

Yunusi faces three counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with Children, eight counts of Use of Communication System to Facilitate Certain Crimes Against Children, three counts of Production of Child Pornography, Sodomy, and Aggravated Sexual Battery. He is currently held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division are providing resources and assistance to the victim.

The department advises parents to monitor their children’s online activities and use security settings on devices and platforms. Parents are encouraged to discuss internet safety with their children and be aware of applications that could pose risks. More information about internet safety can be found through resources provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at https://www.missingkids.org/netsmartz/home.

Anyone with information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 (option 6) or submit anonymous tips via Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477), online at https://www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org/, or through the ‘P3 Tips’ App “Fairfax Co Crime Solvers.” Anonymous tipsters may be eligible for cash rewards.
