Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred in Mount Vernon on March 15. The incident took place at approximately 10:12 a.m. at the intersection of Mount Vernon Memorial Highway and Grist Mills Woods Way.
According to police, a 2016 Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound when it crossed into the westbound lanes and struck a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as David Owens, 79, of Alexandria, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, an adult male, sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening and was also taken to a hospital.
Police said that speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Detectives are currently investigating whether a possible medical emergency may have contributed to the incident.
