Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects involved in a series of ATM burglaries, according to a March 12 announcement.
The police say these incidents are important because they involve forced entry into businesses and theft of cash, affecting local stores and community safety.
The first burglary occurred on February 27 at a 7-Eleven on North Kings Highway in Huntington. Officers responded to an alarm and found damage to the front door and ATM. Surveillance footage showed three masked men using an orange and black hydraulic tool to break into the business and steal ATM cassettes containing cash before fleeing in a black Dodge Durango.
Two more burglaries took place on March 3. At 4:51 a.m., two suspects entered a Walgreens on Nutley Street in Merrifield, used a hydraulic tool to access the ATM, stole cash, and left in a black sedan. Later that morning at 5:08 a.m., two masked men attempted to steal from an ATM at Sunoco on Gallows Road in Dunn Loring but were unsuccessful. They fled in a black Infiniti sedan, leaving behind tools including a crowbar and the same type of hydraulic tool seen previously.
Detectives believe the same group is responsible for all three incidents. The department encourages anyone with information to contact their McLean District Station or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers by phone or web. Anonymous tipsters may be eligible for up to $5,000 if their information leads to an arrest.
Residents are also encouraged to register their security cameras with Connect Fairfax County to assist police investigations. Updates will be provided through the department’s blog and social media channels.
