In-person early voting for the November General Election in Fairfax County begins on Friday, September 19. Voters will be able to cast ballots for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and House of Delegates seats.
Three locations will open initially: Fairfax County Government Center, Mount Vernon Governmental Center, and North County Governmental Center. On Thursday, October 23, an additional 13 locations will begin operations. Early voting continues through Saturday, November 1.
All active registered voters in Fairfax County should receive a yellow sample ballot brochure by mail this week. The brochure provides information about precincts, voting options, and a sample ballot.
Voters must vote at their assigned precinct on Election Day, Tuesday, November 4. Early voting sites have specific hours; the Fairfax County Government Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours on select weekends and holidays. The Mount Vernon and North County centers operate Monday through Friday from 1 to 7 p.m., also with weekend availability.
Curbside voting is available for individuals with disabilities or those aged 65 or older. Voters using this option are instructed to look for designated signs near accessible parking areas and contact election officers upon arrival.
Identification is required at polling places. Acceptable forms include a Virginia driver’s license (even if expired), government-issued ID cards, Virginia college IDs, current utility bills or bank statements showing name and address, or completion of an ID Confirmation Statement.
Those wishing to vote by mail can apply online or via paper application using their Social Security number and a Virginia DMV-issued ID if applying online. Paper applications can be submitted by email, mail (P.O. Box 10161, Fairfax VA 22038), fax (703-324-3725), or in person at the Office of Elections at the Government Center. Applications must be received by Friday, October 24 at 5 p.m., with ballots mailed within three business days after approval.
As of September 1, there are more than 749,000 registered voters in Fairfax County. Residents who need to register or update their information can use the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal to manage registration details and check polling locations.
The deadline to register or update voter information is October 24 for participation on Election Day. After that date—and up until November 1—same-day registration is available at early voting sites; provisional ballots will be used in these cases and counted after Election Day. Same-day registration is also offered at polling places on Election Day itself.
