Fairfax Connector is marking its 40th anniversary on September 28, commemorating four decades of public transportation service in the region. The bus system began operations in 1985 with just 10 routes, a fleet of 33 buses, and a staff of 33 operators. Over the years, it has expanded significantly and now operates more than 90 routes with over 340 buses. The workforce has also grown to include more than 800 employees, covering drivers, mechanics, and office staff.
“We’ve grown over these 40 years to one of the largest bus systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia,” said Kala Berry, head of marketing for Fairfax Connector. “And we’re among some of the largest in the country.”
Fairfax Connector currently serves not only Fairfax County but also extends its services to Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Loudoun County. Among its initiatives is a program that allows middle and high school students to ride for free throughout the year.
