Fairfax County has received a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2025 Municipal Equality Index, maintaining its top rating for LGBTQ+ inclusivity. The index assesses local laws, policies, and services across the United States to determine how welcoming municipalities are for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) residents.

County Executive Bryan Hill commented on the achievement: “Our repeated top score is a reflection of the critical work we continue to achieve for all residents with our One Fairfax policy, and with the strong support of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Together, our staff are dedicated to ensuring Fairfax County is a place where everyone belongs.”

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation produces the Municipal Equality Index annually. Now in its 13th year, the MEI evaluates over 500 cities and counties nationwide using nearly 50 different criteria. The index offers a public overview of each municipality’s commitment to LGBTQ+ equality and serves as a guide for leaders seeking to improve protections for their LGBTQ+ community members.
