Fairfax County is expanding its Charge Up Fairfax program, offering more opportunities for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in local communities. Initially launched in 2023 to assist homeowner and condominium associations, the program now includes nonprofit organizations and places of worship. The initiative provides technical guidance and financial assistance to help these groups install shared EV charging stations.

Participants in the program can benefit from increased reimbursement grants, reducing the cost of installing Level 2 EV chargers. They also receive technical support through county-funded site visits by professional engineers, ensuring expert guidance on planning and installation. Options available include a grant-only model or coordination with Dominion Energy’s Level 2 EV Charging Program.

The expansion aligns with the county’s strategic goals to improve air quality by supporting the transition to electric vehicles. The program also supports equity policies by offering additional funding levels to organizations in high vulnerability areas.

Since its start, Charge Up Fairfax has seen participation from 16 communities, with five completing installations successfully. Participants are provided with site assessments funded by Fairfax County before proceeding with their projects.

In addition to Charge Up Fairfax, the county’s Energy Conservation Assistance Program has reached a $1 million milestone in community energy efficiency upgrades. The program covers about 20% of investment costs through reimbursement grants and focuses on advancing equity goals by targeting high vulnerability areas.

Eligible organizations can apply for both programs at any time, with applications accepted on a rolling basis. More information is available through the county’s website or via email at oeecinfo@fairfaxcounty.gov.
