Fairfax County Government has shared updates on various community initiatives and information relevant to local residents. Through their social media platform, the county government aims to engage with the community on educational opportunities, wildlife awareness, and renewable energy projects.

On July 10, 2025, Fairfax County Government announced a short story contest titled “The World We Write”, co-sponsored by the Fairfax Library Foundation. The competition invites participants from different age groups: grades 3-6, grades 7-12, and adults. Three winners will be selected in each category.

Later that day, they issued an advisory for residents to “Be Bear Aware” as it is the season for bear sightings. Although not frequent, black bears occasionally pass through residential areas of Fairfax County. The government provided guidance on how to prevent encounters with bears and steps to take if one is spotted.

In another announcement made on July 10th, Fairfax County revealed plans for a new solar project under the headline “Here comes the sun.” A solar array covering 37 acres of the closed I-95 landfill is scheduled for completion in Spring 2026. This initiative aims to produce five megawatts of power—sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 1,000 homes.

These updates reflect Fairfax County’s commitment to fostering creativity among its residents while promoting environmental awareness and sustainability efforts within the community.
