Fairfax County Government announces new supervisor swearing-in and provides holiday closure updates

Fairfax County Government posted a series of updates this week on its official Twitter account, including the swearing-in of a new supervisor, holiday office closures, and an interview with a local nonprofit leader.

On December 18, 2025, Fairfax County Government announced that “Braddock District Supervisor Rachna Sizemore Heizer was sworn in at the Fairfax County Government Center on Tuesday, Dec. 16. She won a special election to fill the spot vacated by James Walkinshaw when he was elected to Congress.” The Braddock District is one of nine magisterial districts within Fairfax County, which is located in Northern Virginia and serves over one million residents.

Later that day, the county government provided information about holiday closures: “Fairfax County Government offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday. However, some facilities are open and schedules vary. For specific schedule information: https://t.co/8jq8b2Ppeb” This announcement reflects routine adjustments made by local governments during major holidays to accommodate both staff and residents’ needs.
