Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel periods, and the police department advises drivers to plan ahead, buckle up, follow speed limits, avoid distractions like phone use while driving, and never drive under the influence of alcohol. “Plan Ahead: Anticipate heavy traffic and allow extra time to reach your destination,” they advise.
With warmer weather encouraging more outdoor activities, there is an increase in pedestrian and cyclist activity. Drivers are urged to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks, avoid passing vehicles stopped for pedestrians, watch out for children playing outside, and maintain a safe distance from cyclists. “Yield to Pedestrians: Always stop for pedestrians in crosswalks,” reminds the police department.
Throughout the weekend, there will be an increased police presence on roadways focusing on DWI enforcement and traffic safety. This measure aims to deter dangerous behavior and ensure community safety.
