The Fairfax County Police Department is increasing its engagement with the community through a series of upcoming events and ongoing programs. The department says that community involvement can improve public safety, help prevent crime, and strengthen ties between residents and local first responders.

A number of events are scheduled for this week. On Saturday, August 16, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a Child ID event held in partnership with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office at 6101 Knollwood Dr, Falls Church. On Tuesday, August 19, two events will take place: a Scams & Fraud Presentation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 12300 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax; and “Kids in Today’s Society,” running from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 6140 Rolling Rd, Springfield. A Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting is also set for Wednesday, August 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at 6121 Franconia Rd, Alexandria.

“Getting involved in your community provides numerous benefits, including enhancing public safety, preventing crime, and fostering stronger relationships with your local first responders,” according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Residents seeking more information about these or other activities are encouraged to contact their local police district station or sign up on Nextdoor to receive updates and see posts shared by the department.

The department also notes that each police district has its own newsletter which provides updates on local issues and safety tips. Subscriptions are available under Public Safety on their website for those who want regular email updates.

Those interested in law enforcement careers can find more details about joining the Fairfax County Police Department by visiting their official website.

Additionally, residents can register their security cameras with Connect Fairfax County to assist police investigations related to crimes or missing persons cases.

The department encourages staying informed through their blog and following them on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram at @FairfaxCountyPD.
