As the community celebrates Cinco de Mayo, the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) emphasizes the importance of safety and responsible behavior. The department is increasing its DUI enforcement efforts across the county to ensure road safety during the festivities.

“Our officers will be out in greater numbers throughout the county on Cinco de Mayo conducting increased DUI enforcement,” said a spokesperson from FCPD. “If you choose to drive under the influence, you will be stopped.”

In collaboration with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), free Lyft rides are available through the SoberRide initiative. This service aims to prevent drunk driving and operates from 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 5, until 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6.

The FCPD offers several tips for celebrating safely:

– Plan ahead by deciding on transportation before going out.
– Designate a sober driver if attending events with friends.
– Use public transportation or ride-sharing services.
– Consider staying overnight if far from home.
– Be a responsible host by providing safe transportation options and discouraging excessive drinking.

“Let’s work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable Cinco de Mayo for all. Your choices make a difference,” urged an FCPD representative.

The community is also encouraged to register their cameras with Connect Fairfax County to assist FCPD in solving crimes and locating missing persons.
