Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving four vehicles that occurred in Centreville. The incident took place on August 25 at approximately 2:24 p.m. at the intersection of Sully Park Drive and Kamputa Drive.

According to preliminary information, three vehicles were traveling southbound on Sully Park Drive when a Honda Pilot, driven by Darrell Ewing, 80, of Clifton, was observed traveling northbound in the southbound lanes into oncoming traffic. Despite attempts by the three drivers to swerve and avoid a collision, all were struck by the Honda Pilot.

Darrell Ewing was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. Two other drivers and their passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police stated that alcohol does not appear to be involved in the crash. Investigators are still determining whether speed played a role.
