The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) has announced the promotion of Christopher Mattus and Jeff Mauro to the rank of Major. This decision reflects the department’s commitment to strong leadership within its ranks.
Chief Kevin Davis commended the new Majors, stating, “Leadership is defined by action, not words—and these individuals have proven that time and time again. Their tireless efforts and steadfast commitment set the standard for excellence in our community.”
Christopher Mattus has been promoted within the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau. His career with FCPD began in 2003 at the Reston District Station. Mattus has held roles such as Assistant Commander of the Mason District Station and Deputy Director of the Northern Virginia Regional Intelligence Center. His leadership capabilities are underpinned by a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Buffalo State University, along with training from the Emerging Leaders Institute, FCPD’s Commander College, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s (IACP) Leadership in Police Organizations program.
Jeff Mauro now serves as the Commander of the Mount Vernon District Station. Major Mauro has previously held positions including Assistant Commander of both the Mount Vernon and West Springfield District Stations. His extensive experience includes roles in the Mason District Station, Major Crimes Bureau, and as a founding member of the department’s Drone Unit. Mauro is an alumnus of the University of California and Georgetown University, with a background that includes participation in the IACP’s Leadership in Police Organizations program and FCPD’s Command College.
Both Majors Mattus and Mauro bring a wealth of experience and training to their new roles, with a focus on maintaining and enhancing standards within the department.
