Fairfax County Public Schools Class of 2025 surpasses state and global SAT averages

Fairfax County Public Schools students in the Class of 2025 achieved SAT scores that exceeded both state and global averages, according to recently released data. The average SAT score for Fairfax County was 1183, surpassing the Virginia average of 1112 and the global average of 1029. Scores for the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing subtest were also higher in Fairfax County (596) compared to Virginia (567) and worldwide (521). Similarly, Mathematics subtest scores were higher in Fairfax County (587), with Virginia at 544 and the global average at 508.

Performance across all student reporting groups—including Asian, Black, Hispanic, Multiple Races, and White—was consistently above state and global averages. For example, Asian students in Fairfax scored an average total of 1266, while Black students averaged 1076. These results are based on College Board public reporting as of September 30, 2025.

This achievement shows the impact of our work and reinforces the excellence of a Fairfax County Public Schools education, when compared to other school divisions across the nation. Congratulations to all of our students for their hard work. These results show that when we work together, our students can achieve amazing things.”

The participation rate among seniors in Fairfax County was also notably higher than the statewide rate; 65.7% of seniors took the SAT compared to just 51.3% across Virginia.

The Class of 2025’s total score increased by five points over last year’s results. The Evidence-Based Reading and Writing subtest improved by two points from 2024, while Mathematics rose by three points.

Fairfax County Public Schools continues to offer SAT School Day free of charge for all enrolled seniors as part of its effort to support strong participation rates throughout the division. This year’s SAT School Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8.
