The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee met at the Gatehouse Administration Center on September 24 to continue discussions about proposed changes to school boundaries within Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Dr. Michelle C. Reid, Superintendent of FCPS, welcomed committee members and acknowledged their ongoing efforts in the boundary review process.
Dr. Reid reminded the committee that community meetings for September are concluding, with additional meetings scheduled for October. A consultant working with the committee provided an update on the transportation analysis and reviewed the overall timeline for the boundary review project.
During the meeting, draft changes associated with Scenario 4 were presented to advisory committee members. The consultant asked for feedback from committee members on these proposed adjustments. Members then divided into subgroups to discuss Scenario 4 in detail and received guidance from the consultant on how to submit their feedback.
According to Dr. Reid, “Scenario 4, mentioned in the key takeaways, continues to build upon the first three scenarios. It is informed by the Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee, who reviewed community feedback received in the spring to help develop priorities that the consultant used to create Scenario 4.”
The draft map reflecting Scenario 4 will be shared with community members during October boundary review meetings and will also be available through the Boundary Explorer Tool. Community members can provide input using this tool at their convenience.
Currently, only maps from previous spring meetings are available in the Boundary Explorer Tool; updates reflecting Scenario 4 have not yet been made.
Additional information about meeting agendas, slides, and materials distributed to committee members can be found on FCPS’ website. The site also offers resources for those interested in learning more about the comprehensive boundary review or subscribing to updates through a newsletter.
Dr. Reid concluded her message by thanking families and staff for their engagement with this process: “Thank you for your time and engagement. This work matters.”
