Fairfax County Public Schools announced on May 20 several updates including student achievements, upcoming events, and reminders for families as the school year draws to a close.
The district reported that nine students received awards at the International Science and Engineering Fair held in Phoenix. In addition, twenty-six students earned first-place honors at the Virginia Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference, with more than ninety qualifying for the national conference in San Antonio next month.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid reflected on two recent nominations for the Capital Emmy Awards recognizing FCPS video productions. “These nominations highlight the incredible stories unfolding across FCPS every day,” Reid said.
Families are reminded to check their children’s lunch balances as summer approaches. Applications for free and reduced-price meals must be submitted each school year to maintain eligibility. The application process for the next academic year will open this summer.
Other updates include information about colleges still accepting applications, mental health resources available through virtual therapy sessions and community services, as well as opportunities such as summer camps, enrichment programs, and community events like the Summer Extravaganza scheduled for June 6 at Woodson High School. The district also highlighted its annual Puzzle Hunt event promoting family engagement and safety education.
As graduation season nears, FCPS encourages students and families to share photos from ceremonies using social media hashtags provided by the district.
