At the recent School Board meeting held on July 10, 2025, several key decisions and presentations were made. The meeting commenced at 7:31 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence, and a performance of the National Anthem by Juliet Pascoe from Mount Vernon High School.

Chair Frisch noted that due to unforeseen circumstances affecting member quorum, the meeting time was adjusted and the agenda reorganized. He also welcomed Faith Mekonen as the 55th Student Representative to the School Board.

During Community Participation, one member of the public addressed the board. For her first time, Faith Mekonen presented Student Representative Matters.

Superintendent Dr. Reid delivered Superintendent Matters to the board. The board approved proclamations honoring outstanding Fairfax County Public Schools employees and recognized businesses in the Virginia School Boards Association Business Honor Roll for 2025.

In accordance with regulations, this session served as an annual organizational meeting where Springfield District Member Sandy Anderson was elected as Chair and Dranesville District Member Robyn Lady as Vice Chair for the 2025-2026 school year. Organizational arrangements and appointments for this period were authorized.

The board reviewed Executive Limitations (EL), which guide how the Superintendent operates to achieve division goals. Dr. Reid presented a monitoring report on EL-2 Emergency Superintendent Succession, which was found compliant by the board. This report marked the beginning of Executive Limitation monitoring reports and Strategic Plan Goal Reports for SY 2025-2026.

Dr. Reid also presented updates on Academic Matters regarding WIDA Progress and provided a Strategic Plan Update on FCPS Graduations under Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow’s Innovation alongside Chief Financial Officer Leigh Burden during their Fiscal Year 2025 Year End Review presentation.

The consent agenda saw adoption of various committee minutes, resolutions including VPSA State Technology Grant Reimbursement Resolution, policies concerning students with disabilities and student lists while retiring Policy 2620 related to students with physically aggressive or violent behavior. Several contracts were awarded along with approval for Fiscal Year 2026 Risk Assessment & Audit Topics plus Thomas Jefferson High School’s Governor’s School Designation.

Board Matters were skipped before adjourning at 11:29 p.m., with upcoming meetings scheduled on July 17 at 7:00 p.m., available for viewing via FCPS YouTube channel.
