Exceptional employees from Fairfax County Public Schools were honored at the FCPS Honors event on June 11, 2025. The ceremony, sponsored by Educate Fairfax, took place at George Mason University’s Center for the Arts.
Each year, more than 800 employees in both instructional and operational roles are recognized through the Outstanding Employee Awards Program. This year’s celebration acknowledged 78 finalists across 12 categories.
Andrea Edmonson, a third-grade teacher at Little Run Elementary School, Region 5, was named Outstanding Elementary New Teacher. Her journey into education began during virtual learning as a long-term substitute teacher. Andrea is committed to creating engaging learning environments and believes in empowering every learner academically, socially, and emotionally.
Emmeline Andrea Mejia received the Outstanding Secondary New Teacher award. As a multilingual learners teacher at Justice High School, Region 2, Emmeline supports newcomer students navigating new languages and cultures. She also contributes beyond teaching by coaching soccer and mentoring teens.
The title of Outstanding New Principal went to Justin Simmons of South County Middle School, Region 4. He focuses on data-driven initiatives to improve student achievement and school culture while fostering open communication within his community.
Liliana Alfaro was recognized as the Outstanding School-Based Operational Employee for her role as Building Supervisor III at Falls Church High School. Her leadership ensures a clean and safe environment amid ongoing building renovations.
Daniel J. Matheney earned the title of Outstanding Nonschool-Based Operational Employee as Plumber Supervisor at Edison Support Center. He modernized department operations and emphasized safety through training initiatives.
Raquel A. Joyner was awarded Outstanding School-Based Professional Employee for her work as Special Education Department Chair at Quander Road School, Region 3. Raquel’s dedication extends beyond school boundaries as she supports students’ full potential realization.
Deborah March received recognition as Outstanding Nonschool-Based Professional Employee for managing the John Lewis Leadership Program at Willow Oaks Administrative Center. Deborah collaborates with diverse stakeholders to develop leadership programs rooted in justice and advocacy.
Dominic A. Williams was named Outstanding School-Based Leader for his role as Assistant Principal at Union Mill Elementary School, Region 4. Dominic prioritizes listening before taking action to ensure decisions benefit students and staff.
Jay Nocco earned recognition as Outstanding Nonschool-Based Leader for his work as Executive Director of Professional Learning at Willow Oaks Administrative Center. His innovative ideas foster creativity across departments.
Jason B. Ericson received the award for Outstanding Elementary Teacher for his commitment to physical education at Dogwood Elementary School, Region 1. Jason promotes fitness through clubs and community events while fostering positive relationships with students.
Andrew W. Sharrock was named Outstanding Secondary Teacher for expanding Glasgow Middle School’s band program in Region 2 over seven years while providing world-class performance opportunities for students regardless of socioeconomic status.
Finally, Georgina Aye was honored as Outstanding Principal of Fairfax High School in Region 5 for her focus on diversity and student voice elevation within her school’s climate and culture.
