Fairfax County Public Schools announced on Apr. 6 that several staff members have been recognized for their dedication and support as part of the FCPS Cares program for April.

The FCPS Cares program highlights the positive impact school employees have on students, families, and colleagues by sharing stories of exceptional service and commitment.

Among those recognized are Marissa Petty and Angela Couse from Willow Oaks Admin Center. Monisha Blair from Key Middle School said, “Angela and Marissa truly are colleagues that can be relied on to get things done. When I was unable to host a multi-part program in the library, they stepped in and handled the whole process beautifully in my absence. The peace of mind knowing that my students were well taken care of was such a relief. I am so thankful to have them both in my corner.”

Kaitlyn Sam from Kings Glen Elementary School also received recognition. Susannah Burkhart from Kings Glen ES said, “Ms. Sam goes above and beyond to build relationships with her students. She is in her third year of teaching, yet she exudes calm, grace and confidence. She spends most of her lunches with students, getting to know them and their friends.” Jennifer Fedor from Kings Glen ES was praised by Burkhart as well: “Mrs. Fedor is always thinking of others. She goes above and beyond to bring joy to her colleagues and her students…she brought bouquets of flowers for each of her students and waited patiently after the show to be sure she had congratulated each of them individually.”

Kelly Turner at Glen Forest Elementary School was commended by a parent who said, “Ms. Turner greets her students with a smile every single day…her kindness goes far beyond the classroom.” The parent described Turner’s thoughtful gestures such as providing cake for birthdays or responding quickly when a child needed help at school.

Wafika Albani at Dunn Loring Center received appreciation from an FCPS parent who wrote about Albani’s patience during their family’s move: “You went above and beyond to provide me with every single detail…Your guidance made a challenging process feel much easier to manage…Thank you once again for your exceptional kindness and professionalism.”

The FCPS Cares initiative continues each month as community members are encouraged to submit stories recognizing staff contributions.
