Students returned to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for the first day of the 2025-26 academic year. Across the district, students and staff marked the occasion with greetings and preparations for a new school year.

Parents were seen accompanying their children at Wakefield Forest Elementary School as they began classes. Administrators and teachers welcomed students back, emphasizing readiness for learning.

FCPS encouraged families to stay informed about transportation updates by using resources such as the Bus Delay Notification System and the Here Comes the Bus mobile app. The school system reminded parents that email notifications will be sent for bus delays longer than 30 minutes, and contact information should be updated in SIS ParentVUE to ensure timely communication.

The Fairfax County Police Department also issued reminders on student safety during commutes, highlighting tips for walking, biking, or driving to school and stressing helmet use for bikers.

Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid addressed students, staff, and families with a welcome back message. She highlighted initiatives for the new school year, including girls’ flag football.

FCPS extended thanks to teachers, staff, and families for their efforts in preparing for the start of classes. “Today was possible because of our dedicated educators and staff who make FCPS a great place to learn and work. It also wouldn’t be possible without the patience and support of our families.”
