Fairfax County officials announced on March 20 that new planning concepts for the Franconia-Springfield area have been drafted and are now available for public feedback through a community survey.

The initiative is part of the ongoing Franconia-Springfield Planning Study, which aims to update the Comprehensive Plan guiding land use and development decisions in the area. The study, launched in Fall 2025, covers locations from Springfield Plaza to Inova HealthPlex, including Springfield Town Center, the GSA warehouse, and surrounding neighborhoods.

The current Comprehensive Plan has not undergone a full review in more than 15 years. Officials say that community participation is important as feedback will help shape changes and improvements for at least the next two decades. The new survey compiles ideas developed with input gathered during outreach efforts in Fall 2025.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to take part in the survey, which takes about 20 minutes to complete and presents three main proposals for future development. According to county officials, “Community feedback will be used to guide changes and improvements in the area for the next 20 years and beyond.”

Officials emphasize that updating the plan is necessary to address evolving needs within Franconia-Springfield. The results of this process are expected to influence land use policies well into the future.
