As fall nears, Fairfax County health officials are urging residents to take steps to protect themselves during the upcoming respiratory illness season. The county’s Health Department is focusing on increased cases of COVID-19, flu, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) that are expected in the months ahead.
Mandy Burton, a respiratory epidemiologist with the Fairfax County Health Department, appeared on a recent episode of the “County Conversation” podcast to discuss concerns for the community. Burton emphasized the importance of vaccinations and prevention strategies as key measures against these illnesses.
She said, “COVID-19, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are expected to increase in the coming months, making vaccination and prevention strategies more important than ever.”
The county’s message comes as part of ongoing efforts to inform residents about seasonal health risks and encourage preventive actions.
