Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, working with the City of Fairfax Police Department, have charged a Fairfax man in connection with two burglaries at a vape store near Kings Park West and three additional burglaries in the City of Fairfax.

On June 26, officers responded to Star Tobacco at 10665 Braddock Road after a commercial burglary alarm was triggered. According to police, surveillance footage showed an unidentified suspect breaking into the business and stealing Kratom products before fleeing. On July 13, officers were called again to the same location for another break-in involving stolen Kratom products.

Investigators learned from City of Fairfax Police that three similar burglaries had occurred in their jurisdiction. Detectives concluded that all five incidents were likely committed by the same individual.

Police identified David Elliot, 23, of Fairfax as the suspect. He was arrested at his home by both City of Fairfax Police and Fairfax County detectives. Authorities say evidence linked to the burglaries was found during the arrest.

Elliot was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with five counts of burglary. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.

“Vape stores across Fairfax County have become frequent targets in a wave of burglaries, with suspects stealing high-value items like vape pens and Kratom. Kratom, a controversial herbal product, is now a top item being stolen. Its misuse and resale pose growing risks to public safety, and those struggling with Kratom use are encouraged to seek help from a healthcare provider or addiction support services,” according to police.

To address these crimes, the department has launched its 2025 Summer Crime Prevention Initiative. The plan involves increased patrols and targeted enforcement in areas considered high risk for retail thefts. Police are also collaborating with local businesses and encouraging residents and store owners to report suspicious activity as well as register their security cameras with law enforcement.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact detectives at the West Springfield District Station at 703-644-7377 option 2 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477) or online via ‘P3 Tips’ App under “Fairfax Co Crime Solvers.” Anonymous tipsters may be eligible for rewards up to $5,000.

Residents can register their security cameras through Connect Fairfax County to assist police investigations involving crimes or missing persons cases.
