Fairfax County Public Schools announced on June 1 that several staff members and educators have been recognized through the FCPS Cares program for their outstanding contributions during the past school year.
Rachel Perella from Willow Oaks Admin Center was highlighted for her work with Behavior Intervention Services. “Throughout the past school year, Rachel Perella has truly been an invaluable asset to Behavior Intervention Services. Her mastery of the CPS model and her knack for creating accessible, high-quality instructional tools have greatly elevated our professional development. Rachel has become a trusted leader and a go-to resource for her colleagues, creating a warm and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. From managing the county-wide Mandt training schedule to championing inclusive practices, Rachel’s proactive leadership has made a meaningful difference for both staff and students alike,” said Lori Kraden of Willow Oaks Admin Center.
A group of teachers and staff at Lake Braddock Secondary—Mike Dougherty, Gerald Bodner, Paul Wardinski, Dennis Adams, Martin Gross, and Jean Burneo—were also recognized by a parent who said, “Ms. Burneo, Mr. Gross, Mr. Adams, Mr. Wardinski, Mr. Bodner, and Mr. Dougherty have all been instrumental in guiding and educating our son in his senior year at Lake Braddock High School. We want to sincerely thank, extend our appreciation, and recognize these teachers and staff for the time and attention they have devoted to our son. Thank you so much and continued success to Lake Braddock Secondary School!”
Sophia Hoey of Cub Run Elementary School received praise from a parent who said, “I would like to recognize Ms. Sophia Hoey as an outstanding teacher and a genuine gift to her students! My daughter adores her…Ms. Hoey approaches every child with kindness…Her encouraging nature helps build confidence in her students…Thank you Ms. Hoey for being such a talented teacher! My daughter and I appreciate you very much!”
Margie Evans at Fort Hunt Elementary was commended by Rachael Smith: “Mrs. Margie Evans is an extraordinary teacher who has touched the lives of countless students throughout her career…By teaching the whole child she ensures that every student has the support…Even after retiring her dedication brought her back as a part-time teacher where she continued to make a difference in students’ lives.” Additional recognitions went to Beatriz Kalin and Teresa Oronoz at London Towne Elementary School by parents highlighting their nurturing environments in kindergarten classrooms.
The FCPS Cares program encourages community members to recognize employees who demonstrate exceptional service or positive impact within Fairfax County Public Schools.
