Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) concluded its 2025 Summer Internship Program with a celebration at the Gatehouse Administration Center. The program included 20 high school students and recent graduates who worked in various central office departments such as Human Resources, Facilities Management, Safety and Security, Professional Learning, and Special Services.
Interns were involved in hands-on activities within public education administration. They contributed to division projects and learned about potential careers in public service and education. William Solomon, chief human resources officer, said, “Interns bring fresh energy and new perspectives to our work. We designed this experience not just to help them grow, but to show them that FCPS can be a place where they make a real impact. They had a chance to listen, learn, and ask lots of questions over the last six weeks, and have transformed into elite professionals.”
The program offered participants insight into the operations of one of the largest school systems in the country. Intern Teresa Seraphin noted her surprise at how many people are needed to run the division and highlighted “experiencing the excitement of staff members about public education and the work that they do” as her favorite part.
Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid stated, “Our interns remind us of why we do this work — to serve our students. They are curious, capable, and committed. They represent the future of our schools, our communities, and our workforce. We are so proud of them and grateful they had the opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work that showcased the power and promise of public education.”
The internship program aligns with Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow’s Innovation from FCPS’s 2023-30 Strategic Plan by preparing students for success after high school.
Support for this year’s internship program came from Educate Fairfax and Apple Federal Credit Union.
