Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is advancing to the second phase of its community boundary review process. The initiative aims to address student population growth, school capacity changes, and evolving community needs.
Phase 1 involved gathering input through 12 Community Boundary Review Meetings. Dr. Michelle C. Reid, Superintendent of Schools, acknowledged the importance of community engagement in shaping decisions that support student health and wellness. Feedback was collected by Thru Consulting and informed potential boundary scenarios.
The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee has been reviewing feedback, data, and draft boundary scenarios for upcoming meetings. Dr. Reid emphasized the significance of scheduling these meetings around school-based activities to provide early feedback on draft maps.
In Phase 2, families and staff will have access to a customized Boundary Explorer Tool on the FCPS website to explore potential scenarios’ effects on boundaries. A new series of community meetings will take place from May 15 to June 6 at various schools including Oakton HS and Robinson SS. These hybrid meetings allow for both in-person and virtual attendance via Zoom, with childcare and language services available as needed.
Further information can be found on the Comprehensive Boundary Review webpage, where an updated timeline is posted in alignment with School Board Policy 8130.
Dr. Reid expressed gratitude for the community’s collaboration in shaping the future of schools: “Together, all things are possible.”
