First day of school celebrated across Fairfax County Public Schools

Across Fairfax County Public Schools, students returned to classrooms for the first day of the 2025-26 academic year. Teachers and administrators greeted students at various schools, marking the beginning of a new school year.

At Carson Middle School, staff welcomed students with what were described as “bright smiles and warm hugs.” Falls Church High School continued its tradition of a senior sunrise event, where friends gathered on their first day to mark the start of their final year.

Classrooms at Bucknell Elementary School filled with students who began their learning for the year. At Lewis High School, Chef Tim Jones, who is new to FCPS as executive chef, provided a tasting of cinnamon apple overnight oats.

Wakefield Forest Elementary School saw students begin the year by participating in activities focused on tradition and teamwork. A military family was also present at Wakefield Forest to support their student on the first day.

Falls Church High School highlighted family encouragement and community involvement as students started classes. The Falls Church Jaguars and local leaders expressed readiness for the coming season.

Fairfax High School’s staff showed unity by wearing white and blue on the first day. Students and staff at Wakefield Forest Elementary emphasized making connections as they prepared for the academic year ahead.
