Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Child Abuse Squad in the Mason Police District have filed charges against a former Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) teacher for two counts of simple assault.

The investigation began on March 28 when Child Protective Services received information about a student allegedly assaulted by a Parklawn Elementary School teacher. Detectives took command of the case soon after.

Authorities discovered that Mary Simons, 63, from Arlington, was involved in two separate incidents where both a student and a teacher were assaulted. Simons surrendered to the authorities and was issued two summons releasable warrants for simple assault. A mugshot has not been released at this time.

Following the allegations, Simons was placed on administrative leave by FCPS. During the ongoing investigation, Simons retired from her teaching position. She had been employed by FCPS since 2009.

Victim specialists from the Victim Services Division have been assigned to provide necessary resources and support to the victims.

Detectives are seeking additional information from the public regarding this case or any potentially related incidents.
