Graham Road Elementary School staff continued their annual summer tradition of the welcome walk, visiting students and families at their homes before the start of the new school year. The event took place during one of the hottest days of the week, as teachers and administrators delivered packets containing resources such as bus schedules, class assignments, and invitations to an open house.
Principal Lauren Badini described the importance of this initiative: “The welcome walk is such a meaningful tradition [allowing] us to personally greet students and families in their neighborhoods before the first day of school. It builds excitement, strengthens connections, and helps ensure that every child feels seen and welcomed right from the start.”
Assistant Principal Nicole Scesney added: “[It’s] more than an event — it’s a statement that every child matters and every family is part of our story. By stepping into our students’ world before they step into ours, we lay the foundation for a year filled with trust, laughter, and learning.”
Teacher Taylor Swen shared her perspective on participating in the event: “This is my third year doing the welcome walk, and I love seeing all my students for the year. I just love seeing the community and being out here and connecting families, so it’s great!”
The welcome walk has become a key part of Graham Road’s approach to building relationships within its community. The activity aims not only to distribute information but also to show support for students and families ahead of each academic year.
