Great Falls property owners paid 0.9% of their home values in property taxes for the first quarter of 2026, which was above the national average, BlockShopper.com reports.

Data from 33 property sales in the same period show that the median sales price for a Great Falls home reached $1,695,000. In 2026, the city’s median property tax bill amounted to $15,654, representing 0.9% of the median taxable home value.

The average effective property tax rate across the U.S. was 0.888% in 2024.

Within Fairfax County, Idylwood, Woodburn, and Fair Lakes recorded the highest effective property tax rates among cities.
