Lyme disease remains the most recognized and prevalent illness transmitted by ticks in Virginia. However, other diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and ehrlichiosis also pose risks. Factors influencing tick populations include weather conditions, habitat changes, and the presence of host animals, making it challenging to predict their numbers each year.
