Fairfax County Police announced on Mar. 6 that a Harrisonburg man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Merrifield after meeting her online.
The case highlights concerns about online interactions and the potential risks associated with meeting individuals through the internet. Authorities are urging anyone who may have had contact with the suspect to come forward.
According to police, officers responded to a report of sexual assault on December 16, 2025, in the 2700 block of Prosperity Avenue. The victim told investigators she was assaulted in November by a man she met online who claimed to be a pastor. The two later met for what was described as a counseling session, during which the alleged assault occurred.
Detectives identified Marco Antonio Ocampos Zamora, 36, of Harrisonburg as the suspect. With assistance from Harrisonburg Police, Ocampos Zamora was arrested at his residence on February 27 and transported to Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail. He was extradited to Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on March 4 and charged with Object Sexual Penetration and Abduction with Intent to Defile. He is being held without bond.
Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to support the victim throughout the process. Detectives believe there may be additional victims who had online contact with Ocampos Zamora and encourage anyone with information or concerns to contact the Major Crimes Bureau or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers.
The police also encourage residents to register their security cameras with Connect Fairfax County to assist investigations and stay updated through official social media channels.
