U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on X that it arrested Carlos Ramirez, a Salvadoran noncitizen with four prior illegal entries and charges including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and domestic battery, in Arlington, Virginia.
ICE said that Carlos Ramirez was apprehended as part of its ongoing efforts to target noncitizens with criminal histories. The agency regularly conducts similar enforcement operations. In a recent operation in Houston, ICE arrested 822 individuals, including gang members and those convicted of violent crimes such as murder and child exploitation.
According to ICE’s Fiscal Year 2023 Enforcement and Removal Operations report, 92 percent of administrative arrests involved noncitizens with criminal convictions or pending charges. The agency recorded more than 33,000 assault-related offenses among those arrested.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is a federal agency within the Department of Homeland Security, established in 2003. ICE enforces immigration laws, investigates transnational crimes, and conducts removals of noncitizens with criminal or immigration violations across the United States.
