Jane Bahneman, Women’s Health Coordinator within the Fairfax County Occupational Health Center, is leading efforts to expand wellness programs for the Fairfax County Police Department and Fire and Rescue Department, according to a Mar. 19 announcement by the department.
The development of these programs is intended to address the evolving needs of public safety professionals in both departments. The initiative aims to support physical and mental well-being among personnel through specialized health programming.
Bahneman joined the department in 2021, initially conducting mind/body and yoga classes that have since evolved into a broader network of wellness initiatives. In her current role, she oversees the Health and Wellness Division’s efforts to develop programs that promote resilience and performance on and off duty.
With over two decades of experience in wellness, Bahneman has previously founded Nectar Yoga Studios and held leadership roles at Georgetown University and the University of Virginia. She has also worked as a clinical exercise physiologist. Her background includes creating specialized wellness programs for paramilitary and military populations, which aligns with public safety needs.
Bahneman’s work has received national recognition; she was featured in a commercial during the 2021 Olympic Games. She holds advanced degrees in exercise science along with certifications in fitness, nutrition, public health, yoga instruction, maternal care, and postpartum support.
The police department said it welcomes feedback from personnel as women’s health programming continues to grow under Bahneman’s leadership.
