Steve Cortes, President of the League of American Workers, said that Attorney Ed Martin will “find the truth” and prosecute individuals from the Obama administration whom he accuses of orchestrating the Russia investigation against former President Trump.

“Want prosecutions against the Team Obama perpetrators of the Russia Hoax against Pres Trump,” said Cortes, Founder. “Be grateful, @EagleEdMartin is at the DOJ and ready to find the truth and punish criminals!”

In an interview on the Michael Patrick Leahy show, Cortes said that Ed Martin, who leads the Weaponization Working Group for the Department of Justice (DOJ), if he obtains evidence, will indict and prosecute those responsible for what he calls the “Russia Hoax” against Trump.

According to Cortes, as cited in a commentary in Real Clear Politics, the “real” January 6 did not occur in 2021 at the Capitol but rather on January 6, 2017, during a meeting at Trump Tower. He claims this was when U.S. intelligence set a trap for then-President-elect Donald Trump. FBI Director James Comey delivered the now-discredited Steele dossier as part of a routine intelligence briefing. However, Cortes alleges it was not about national security but rather “a malicious setup.” The briefing’s purpose was allegedly to plant a seed for the Russian collusion narrative. “Once the FBI told Trump about the dossier… that fact became the news hook,” he said.

Cortes further accused officials from the Obama administration and intelligence agencies of initiating what he describes as a “soft coup in slow motion,” intending to undermine Trump’s presidency before it began. He argued that these actions were not about national security but constituted “secret information warfare” conducted by domestic intelligence agencies rather than foreign actors.

The aftermath of this alleged “original sin,” according to Cortes, resulted in years of investigations where agencies became tools for “narrative warfare.” He claimed elites feared Trump not due to his unpredictability but because “he was serious… about cleaning house.” The true legacy of January 6, 2017, according to him, is that elections only matter when they result in victory for what he terms as the ‘correct’ side.

Edward R. Martin Jr., appointed U.S. Pardon Attorney in May 2025 and previously Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, currently serves as Director of DOJ’s Weaponization Working Group under President Donald J. Trump.
