Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said that allegations against Fairfax County school staff regarding arranging and funding abortions for minors without parental consent represent a “total abuse of a child.”
“Thank you Governor @GlennYoungkin @GovernorVA,” said Cortes. “What a total abuse of a child, and usurpation of parental authority!”
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin has directed the Virginia State Police to conduct a full criminal investigation into these allegations. According to a press release from the Governor’s office, reports suggest that school officials may have facilitated such procedures, potentially using public funds, with administrators possibly being aware. “I am deeply concerned with the allegations… and may have misused public funds to pay for them,” Youngkin said in a statement. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Virginia State Police.
Fairfax County Public Schools has initiated its own investigation. Superintendent Michelle Reid described such actions as “unacceptable,” though current policy does not mandate staff to inform parents when a student inquires about abortion, according to ABC7News. Reports indicate involvement of multiple students, including a 17-year-old at Centreville High School, with school administrators potentially aware of the arrangements.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, two former Centreville High School students claim that in 2021, Fairfax County Public Schools staff arranged and paid for their abortions without parental consent, violating Virginia’s parental-notification law. One student reported that school social worker Carolina Díaz scheduled her abortion at the Fairfax Healthcare Center and covered the cost. Another student was allegedly told she had “no other choice” but to terminate her pregnancy while five months pregnant. Both allege Principal Chad Lehman was aware of the procedures and that taxpayer funds were used.
The allegations stem from letters, audio recordings, and handwritten statements provided to conservative journalist Walter Curt, who first reported on the matter according to the Free Beacon. Fairfax County Public Schools has denied the report’s accuracy but confirmed it has launched “an immediate and comprehensive investigation” into these claims.
