Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau of the Mount Vernon Police District have arrested a man in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred on June 10 in Groveton. The incident resulted in the death of one man.

The suspect, Robert Reed, 56, who has no fixed address, was apprehended by officers from the Metro Transit Police Department at the Huntington Metro Station. Subsequently, officers from the Mount Vernon District took him into custody.

Investigations revealed that an altercation between Reed and the victim took place at a bus stop on June 10. Reed has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I/II drugs. He is currently held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

“We would like to thank our partners at the Metro Transit Police Department for their coordination and assistance throughout this investigation,” stated authorities.

Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division are providing support and resources to the victim’s family.

In an earlier report on June 11, officers responded to Richmond Highway and North Kings Highway in Groveton after receiving reports of a stabbing around 1:55 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Marvin Waters, 32, with multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Despite life-saving efforts by fire and rescue personnel, Waters succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Authorities believe that this was an isolated incident stemming from an altercation between Waters and Reed at a bus stop. The suspect had fled before police arrived on scene.
