Meridian High School has announced the appointment of Joanna Quirine as the new Director of Student Activities, effective immediately. Ms. Quirine will oversee all student activities and athletics at the school.

Principal Peter Laub expressed enthusiasm about the appointment: “We are thrilled to welcome Joanna Quirine to our Meridian and Falls Church community. Her emphasis on character development, organizational alignment, and interpersonal connections made her stand out during our selection process. We’re confident her leadership will greatly benefit MHS and make positive contributions for our staff, community, and most importantly, our students.”

Ms. Quirine previously worked at Herndon High School as Health and Physical Education Department Chair while coaching golf and softball. Before that, she was Athletic Director at Friendly Senior High School in Prince George’s County.

Principal Laub highlighted her qualifications: “Ms. Quirine’s ability and experience in leading teams, cultivating inclusive environments, and implementing strategic initiatives makes her a powerful addition to our leadership team.”

Ms. Quirine holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Athletics Administration and is a Certified Athletic Administrator.

The search for a new director began earlier this year following the departure of former Athletic Director Brian Parke. The selection process aimed to find a leader who could serve both the school division and the broader Falls Church community effectively.

In her new role, Ms. Quirine will work to maintain Meridian High School’s tradition of excellence while fostering character development among students.

The Meridian High School community looks forward to Ms. Quirine’s leadership as she begins supporting students and student-athletes.
