Fifty-five recruits have graduated from the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy, completing six months of training to prepare for public safety roles in Northern Virginia. The graduating group includes 37 new police officers joining the Fairfax County Police Department, 14 deputy sheriffs heading to the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, two officers for the Herndon Police Department, and two officers for the Vienna Police Department.
During their time at the academy, recruits underwent instruction in firearms use, defensive tactics, tactical response, physical fitness, and scenario-based exercises. This training is designed to equip them for various challenges encountered in modern law enforcement.
The new graduates collectively speak more than 10 languages and come from over a dozen countries of birth or upbringing. Some recruits also bring previous experience in public safety, military service, or advanced academic qualifications. The department stated that these backgrounds demonstrate its commitment to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the community.
“We congratulate each graduate on reaching this milestone and commend them for their dedication throughout the academy. The Fairfax County Police Department looks forward to the service, professionalism, and commitment these new police officers and deputy sheriffs will bring to the communities they serve,” said a statement from the department.
Community members interested in law enforcement careers can find more information about joining the Fairfax County Police Department on their official website. Residents are also encouraged to register their cameras with Connect Fairfax County to support investigations and help locate missing persons.
