Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in Springfield

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Springfield on August 15. Officers responded to the scene near Hunter Village Drive and Rockledge Court at approximately 7:30 a.m.

According to police, Jay Kim, 76, of Springfield, was crossing the road within a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a northbound 2007 Toyota Camry. Kim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene.

Police stated that neither alcohol nor speed appear to have contributed to the incident. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.

The department is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed or has knowledge about the case. The Crash Reconstruction Unit can be reached at 703-280-0543.
