Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit of the Fairfax County Police Department are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred in Reston on March 15. The incident resulted in the deaths of three people and left two others hospitalized.

According to police, officers responded at 3:18 a.m. to Fox Mill Road and Folkstone Drive after receiving reports of a crash involving a 2021 Rav4. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver, Kevin Josue Rodriguez-Lopez, 25, of Herndon, was traveling southbound when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before catching fire. Rodriguez-Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene along with two passengers: Aylin Gil Deleon, 21, of Fairfax, and a 16-year-old juvenile. Another adult female passenger was flown to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while an additional adult female passenger was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives believe that both alcohol and speed were factors contributing to the crash. Authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed or has knowledge about the incident. Individuals can contact the Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Solvers by phone or online.

Victim specialists from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division have been assigned to assist the families affected by this tragedy.
