Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau are investigating the death of a missing Prince William County man found in Tysons, Fairfax County. On June 6, at 11:16 p.m., Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a 911 call on Galleria Drive and Tysons Boulevard. They discovered an unoccupied blue Toyota Yaris near the roadway.

The investigation showed that the vehicle was traveling westbound, crossed into eastbound lanes, left the road, and hit a tree. Witnesses reported seeing someone flee from the car, possibly leaving in another vehicle. A search using thermal imaging technology did not locate anyone involved or any evidence of foul play.

On June 7, Kyle Coleman, 19, of Gainesville was reported missing by Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD). After receiving video evidence showing Coleman before the crash, PWCPD upgraded his case to Critically Endangered Missing on June 8.

On June 9, FCPD detectives linked Coleman to the crash after receiving his missing person’s bulletin from PWCPD. The investigation included checking hospitals and jails, using license plate readers, K9 searches around the area, and more.

By June 10, FCPD deployed various resources including their Real Time Crime Center for technology-based investigations and multiple teams for ground-level canvassing and aerial searches. Their Underwater Search and Recovery Unit eventually found Coleman deceased in a nearby retention pond surrounded by thick brush. Surveillance footage confirmed no one else was involved in the crash.

Detectives urge anyone with information to contact their Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477). Anonymous tipsters may receive cash rewards. For updates follow @FairfaxCountyPD on social media platforms.
