Status: Feb. 12-13, 2022
Report city-related weather issues to the City of Fairfax Police Dispatch (703-385-7924). This includes hazardous city street conditions, downed tree limbs, and utility wires on public roads in the city.
Public Works Department crews monitor and treat roads as appropriate.
Snow plowing begins after three or more inches of snow accumulation, and continues until all roads are cleared and the weather event ends. Primary roads are cleared first, then secondary and residential roads.
The city will post current information about services and programs as appropriate. Please check back for city service-related updates as the weather event progresses. In case of emergency, call 911.
City residents should take the following actions, as appropriate:
Before inclement weather begins, please park vehicles OFF-STREET — in driveways and parking lots — to give crews quick and safe access to treat roadways.
Bring pets indoors. If it's too cold for you outdoors, it's too cold for them.
After precipitation ends, please clear and treat sidewalks promptly with eco- and animal-friendly ice busters for safe pedestrian access, and check them periodically for refreezing and slick areas.
When clearing driveways, pile snow off the street, to the left of the driveway (facing the driveway from the street). Consider waiting until after plows clear the road at your driveway, so you don't have to clear any of the plow's unintentional snow/ice spillage.
Please clear snow from around nearby fire hydrants, providing emergency workers with a 3-foot clearing around the hydrant.
If you drive, please remove all snow from your vehicle, including the roof, before hitting the road.
