To kick off National Small Business Week, aspiring entrepreneurs will get tips and hear from experts on how to start a business in Fairfax County during the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority’s next Entrepreneurship 101 virtual workshop on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, from 10-11:15 a.m. (EST). Participants will receive step-by-step information that covers registering a business, permitting requirements, business feasibility and business plan basics, business certifications, financing options and government resources.

Held every other month, Entrepreneurship 101, or “E-101,” is a virtual workshop that features a panel of small business experts and an “Entrepreneur Spotlight”. The May 3 panel of experts include:

• Cindy Butler, Women’s Business Center of Northern Virginia, Community Business Partnership.
• Meagan Kiefer, Fairfax County Department of Economic Initiatives.
• Chris Ley, Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity.
• Nirav “Nick” Rajpara, U.S. Small Business Administration-Washington, D.C., District Office.

The “Entrepreneur Spotlight” features guest speakers who will discuss their entrepreneurial journey and share tips for business success. This session’s speakers Amy Dagliano and Kate Janich will talk about why and how they founded Rowan Tree, a Herndon co-working space primarily for women entrepreneurs; how the business has grown; why it’s unique; and how they pivoted during COVID-19 — and more.
