HERNDON TOWN COUNCIL ADOPTS FY 2023 BUDGET

Budget 03

Following two public hearings and ongoing input from town residents and business owners, the Herndon Town Council has adopted a Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 Budget of $57,331,154, a 2.9 percent increase from the adopted FY 2022 Budget. The town’s FY 2023 begins July 1, 2022 and extends to June 30, 2023.

Most town taxes and fees in the Adopted FY 2023 Budget remain unchanged from the current fiscal year. The real estate tax remains unchanged at $0.2650 per $100 of assessed value, a rate that has held steady for a decade; many property owners will receive higher tax bills in FY 2023 due to rising real estate values. Increases were adopted for water and sewer rates, attributed to higher treatment costs; additionally, some fee increases were adopted for patrons of the Herndon Centennial Golf Course and Chestnut Grove Cemetery.

The town’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for FY 2023 will be considered for adoption by the Town Council in May. The complete FY 2023 Budget, including the CIP, will be posted online at Herndon-va.gov/Budget by July 1. Additionally, the town’s interactive budget tool will reflect the adopted budget and will remain online throughout the fiscal year; this tool includes narratives, charts and graphs that are easily navigated and allows taxpayers to enter their personalized tax amounts and see how their taxes are allocated.
