Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid shared on June 1 a series of accomplishments and events from across the district as the school year transitions into June. In her weekly reflections, Reid acknowledged the busy graduation season and encouraged staff to embrace change as an energizing part of life.

Reid highlighted several initiatives in elementary schools, including Bailey’s Upper Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences reducing office referrals by half while maintaining a 96% attendance rate. She also pointed to Bull Run Elementary School’s transformation through its Charger STRONG framework and Columbia Elementary School’s use of artificial intelligence to enhance learning outcomes.

Among individual achievements, Titus Er, a senior at Chantilly High School, was named the 2026 Virginia School Board Association Board of Directors Regional Scholarship recipient for the Northeastern Region. According to Reid, Er is recognized for his leadership roles in service initiatives and youth programs throughout Washington, D.C., as well as his academic excellence. Kent Gardens Elementary students were also celebrated after one team won first place statewide in the Virginia Council on Economic Education Stock Market Game by growing their simulated investment portfolio from $100,000 to over $200,000.

Other notable recognitions included South County High School’s Combined Drumline earning a bronze medal at the Winter Guard International World Championships—the first time this ensemble has medaled—and all 24 sixth graders at Lemon Road Elementary achieving “Pass Advanced” scores on their Algebra 1 Standards of Learning assessments. Events such as Educate Fairfax’s Beyond the Tassel celebration awarded scholarships totaling $91,500 to graduating seniors from 18 high schools.

Reid described visits with students participating in civics projects at Glasgow Middle School and noted milestones like George Mason University’s Early Identification Program marking its 40th anniversary. She attended meetings with advisory committees focused on boundary studies and environmental priorities for next year. The week concluded with athletic competitions including middle school track championships and regional lacrosse semifinals, along with cultural celebrations such as Valluvan Tamil Academy’s Annual Day at Oakton High School.

Closing her message, Reid expressed gratitude for staff commitment: “I am so grateful for our time together as we support this mission-driven work delivering on the power and promise of public education.”
