The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee convened at the Gatehouse Administration Center, focusing on addressing overcapacity issues in schools. The meeting was part of an ongoing effort to maintain transparency and provide updates to the community after each session.

The consultant opened the meeting by acknowledging the feedback from committee members and emphasized that the evening’s discussion would center around overcapacity challenges.

In preparation for upcoming community sessions scheduled to begin on May 15, committee members tested an interactive tool designed to facilitate participation during these hybrid meetings. This tool will enable both in-person and virtual attendees to share their input effectively.

A presentation of draft boundary adjustments aimed at alleviating overcrowding was a key part of the meeting. Using capacity thresholds from the annual CIP, the consultant identified schools with significant capacity deficits, proposing maps to reduce these deficits to 105% or less. Notably, Kent Gardens Elementary School and Falls Church High School were excluded as measures are already underway to address their overcrowding issues.

Committee members engaged in small group discussions, reviewing “Before and After” draft maps along with data tables for each proposed area. Feedback was compiled using graphic organizers.

The updated timeline for the boundary review process was also reviewed, alongside plans for future community meetings. The consultant and Dr. Reid addressed questions from committee members about these developments.

Dr. Michelle C. Reid concluded by expressing gratitude for community engagement in this important work.
