On May 27, officers from the West Springfield Police District arrested a Woodbridge man following a burglary and vehicle theft in Burke. The incident occurred at 7:02 p.m. on the 9500 block of Millgate Place when a complainant reported an unknown man in her home. The victim armed herself, prompting the suspect to flee and leave in a vehicle.

Police located the vehicle nearby and apprehended Derling Gustavo Hernandez, 28, of Woodbridge. Investigations revealed that Hernandez had stolen the vehicle from the Fairfax County Courthouse after his release earlier that day from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Hernandez was taken back to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with several offenses including burglary, grand larceny-auto theft, destruction of property, credit card theft, and public intoxication. He is being held without bond.

Authorities are requesting anyone with information about this incident to contact the West Springfield District Station at 703-644-7377 option 2. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477) or online for a reward up to $5,000.
